An Enchanted Wedding in CVNP
There is something inherently magical about a springtime wedding in Northeast Ohio. When Scarlette and Tyler first told me they were planning a May wedding nestled in the heart of Cuyahoga Valley National Park, I knew it was going to be an unforgettable day.
As an experienced wedding photographer in Cleveland OH, I am always thrilled to document a love story in a landscape that feels completely timeless. For Scarlette and Tyler, they chose to skip the grand spectacle in favor of a smaller, more intimate wedding and to let the scenery do the talking! Surrounded by just their absolute closest family and friends, the day felt deeply personal and wonderfully relaxed.

The park’s towering green canopies, moss-covered ledges, and serene, earthy atmosphere provided the ultimate backdrop for a celebration deeply connected to nature. But beyond the stunning location, this special day carried a beautiful, incredibly unique detail: Tyler actually harvested the sapphire for Scarlette’s engagement ring himself! Knowing the amount of thought, dedication, and literal groundwork that went into their journey to the altar made capturing every moment feel even more meaningful. For couples looking to tie the knot in Northeast Ohio, a Cuyahoga Valley National Park wedding offers an unparalleled blend of rugged adventure and quiet romance.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a treasure trove of cultural history and natural marvels. Stretching along the banks of the winding Cuyahoga River between Cleveland and Akron, the park spans over 33,000 acres of protected wetlands, rolling hills, and deep sandstone gorges. But what many couples planning their nuptials don’t know is just how deeply intertwined the park’s history is with celebration and preservation.
During the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps arrived in the valley to build much of the park’s iconic infrastructure. Using local sandstone and wormy chestnut timber, they constructed incredible gathering spaces like Happy Days Lodge and the Ledges Shelter; structures designed specifically for community joy, picnics, and social events. Today, those very same historic structures serve as beloved, rustic-elegant wedding venues. Choosing this park means your love story becomes a part of a century-long legacy of people gathering to celebrate life amidst the beauty of the Ohio wilderness.
Because it was a smaller, more intimate wedding, the day began with a beautiful, unhurried stillness as the bridal party and groomsmen prepared for the events ahead. Without the rush of a massive itinerary, everyone could truly soak in the morning. Scarlette’s intricate lace gown hung elegantly in the window frame of a historic park property, catching the soft morning light filtering through the spring leaves.

Nearby, Tyler was putting on his finishing touches. I love capturing these quiet, close-up details, the adjustments of suspenders and the simple elegance of a wedding band. It’s in these fleeting, quiet moments where the reality of the day truly begins to set in for the groom.

For their first look, we stepped out into the lush, vibrant fields of the park. The bright May greenery was in full bloom, making the entire landscape feel alive and fresh. Standing under the shade of the trees, Tyler waited patiently as Scarlette made her way toward him, her bridal bouquet rich with warm oranges, whites, and deep green foliage that perfectly mirrored the surrounding wilderness.

As she drew closer, you could feel the excitement building. The anticipation on Tyler’s face and the joyful smile on Scarlette’s created an incredibly sweet dynamic that was an absolute joy to photograph.

Before sneaking away into the deeper woods, we spent a few minutes letting Scarlette show off the incredible movement of her wedding dress. Her joy was completely infectious. Whether captured in the classic, dramatic tones of black and white or the bright, vivid colors of the afternoon sun, her laughter lit up the entire frame.

Watching her twirl through the grass with her bouquet, it was impossible not to smile. The sheer, unadulterated happiness of a bride in her element is exactly what wedding photography is all about.

We wrapped up our portrait session by heading into one of the most breathtaking features of the park: the ancient, mossy rock formations of the Ledges. Towering stone walls covered in rich, vibrant green moss created a secluded, cathedral-like atmosphere.

Tucked away in this dramatic canyon, the bride and groom shared a quiet, intimate embrace. The contrast of her elegant gown and his classic black tuxedo against the rugged, timeless stone perfectly symbolized their adventurous, deeply rooted love for one another.

Scarlette and Tyler’s day was a beautiful reminder that when you keep things small and intentional, you open up space for what truly matters. Infusing their wedding with such personal history, from a hand-harvested engagement gemstone to the natural parks they love, made the entire day feel like a living work of art. From the emotional first look to the breathtaking portraits deep in the mossy canyons, it was an honor to serve as their wedding photographer and document these incredible memories on their wedding day.
